Like the City of Johannesburg and gold, the Rand Show and SANDF go back a long way and the relationship has continued to grow strong over the years. In fact, the relationship is now 10 hectors strong, as this year the SANDF has been allocated 10 hectors of space which the SANDF used efficiently with world class show-stopping edutainment exhibition stalls and capability demonstrations from all four arms of Services and Divisions.
This was proved once again on Friday the 25 of March 2016 during the official opening of the 2016 Rand Show. Secretary for Defence Dr Sam Makhudu Gulube was the main factionary who officially opened the Rand Show on behalf of Defence and Military Veterans’ Minister, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.
In his opening address the Secretary for Defence said “Our participation in the Rand Show provides us the opportunity to interact with the people of South Africa in a more social and relaxed atmosphere. It offers us a good platform to interact directly with the people which enables us to talk to them and make them understand our work as the military. He further stated that “through the Rand Show we as the SANDF are able to educate and raise public awareness about our activities in the area of defence. This includes informing the public about possible careers in the SANDF and show casing SANDF and its capabilities.
Dr Ngulube welcomed all exhibitors and members of the public and wished them a funfilled week at this year’s edition of the Rand Show To say the Force “stole” the show would be an understatement, to prove this come and spend time with us at our exhibition stalls for an unforgettable experience- a chance to explore our fascinating world.
