Safariland now represented by ECM Technologies

The Safariland Group, which specialises in law enforcement and hunting equipment, is now represented in South Africa by ECM Technologies, and exhibited for the first time locally at the Huntex 2016 show at Gallagher Estate.

Safariland supplies items like holsters, body armour, body cameras, forensic equipment, communications and hearing protection and less lethal ammunition. The company claims that its equipment has saved 1 943 lives since inception.

Safariland partnered with ECM Technologies via Med-Eng, a Canadian company which specialises in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD). ECM represents Med-Eng, which was recently acquired by Safariland.

Deon Boston, Sales Director MEA at Med-Eng, told defenceWeb that the company has been working in South Africa since 1969 and has partnered with ECM Technologies for the last two decades. It has supplied bomb disposal equipment to the South African military and police, and recently submitted a tender for EOD equipment to Armscor. It was awarded some mine detection contracts in conjunction with a South Africa company under Project Pirate for the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

Boston told defenceWeb that Med-Eng has supplied EOD 9 bomb disposal suits to the South Africa Police Service, and 15 Med-Eng bomb disposal robots are in service with the South African Police Service and South African Army. The Police have been incrementally ordering additional bomb disposal robots over the last several years.

ECM Technologies represents some 40 global, mostly defence, companies. ECM Technologies will have a large 150 square metre stand at the Africa Aerospace and Defence exhibition in September where it will be exhibiting Safariland and other brands it represents. The company recently added UK-based Mabey Bridge to its portfolio.
