Pakistan Navy Chief of Naval Staff calls on SA Navy Flag Officer Fleet
The SA Navy continues to establish contact with foreign navies, the latest being the Pakistan Navy whose Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, paid an official visit to Simon’s Town. While at SA Navy fleet headquarters he met with Flag Officer Fleet (FOF) Rear Admiral Bubele Mhlana. A statement issued by Pakistan naval headquarters said the pair discussed matters of mutual interest and bilateral naval collaboration. Zakaullah also gave the South African flag officer an insight into his country’s commitment and performance in the fight against terrorism including participation in Coalition Maritime Campaign Plan (CMCP) and other counter-piracy operations. The statement goes on to say that Mhlana lauded the Pakistan Navy’s efforts and commitments in support of collaborative maritime security in the region. Pakistan, as a responsible state, is playing a pivotal role for maritime security and stability, which has helped in shaping a secure environment for freedom of navigation in the region. An example of the work done by the Pakistan navy was last month’s coastal security exercise at the Karachi port complex to check the efficiency of security mechanisms at the port and associated infrastructure against any maritime terrorist threat. Special Operations Forces, Pak marines, Pakistan Navy ships and helicopters were among those who took part.
