Spectacular regiments on parade
On Saturday August 27 the town of Barberton hosted a remarkable regimental march with no less than four units taking part in the spectacular occasion.
The Transvaal Scottish, Witwatersrand Rifles, SA Irish and Regiment Botha exercised their right to the Freedom of the Town of Barberton by parading in the town centre. The parade also featured the SA Irish Pipes and Drums Band, the Military Band of Polokwane and our very own Swazi Dancers.
The salute was taken by the executive mayor of the City of Mbombela, Cllr Sibusiso Mathonsi, who addressed the assembled regiments. Joining the parade were veterans from the MOTHS and other regimental associations.
All four regiments were granted the Freedom of Barberton some years ago and this was the first time since then that all four regiments were on parade.
In the afternoon a memorial service was held at the Garden of Remembrance followed by a formal dinner hosted by Regiment Botha in the Town Hall.
