Capt Joe Dorrington retires from Cape Town Rifles (Dukes)

November 4, 2016

The annual Regimental spring function was held on Friday the 9th of September which this year, was combined with a farewell for Captain John, (Joe) Dorrington.

Joe, on reaching the age of 65 on the 7th of September has come to the end of his active Military career and is to be placed on the National reserve.

A contingent of US Marines from the American Embassy were in attendance as were members from the SA Navy reserve.

CO Moffat who had just passed her “Recce” Platoon Comdr selection, was granted special permission to attend in “pink slippers”, due to her blistered feet.

The combined function was enjoyed by all and was an unqualified success.

THANK YOU FROM CAPT J.K. DORRINGTON

When I was called into the Mess for the usual welcoming address I had no idea you gentlemen had been plotting behind the scenes to present me with such a truly memorable parting gift. I want you to know how sincerely I appreciate the thought, the time and the effort that must have gone into making it. Such a gift is special -- one of a kind -- and on Friday you gentlemen made me feel special.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the wonderful memories and please remember I will always be a loyal Duke. I am immensely proud to have been associated with the Regiment that has become such an integral part of our lives and we love so dearly.

Keep the flag flying and God Bless.
