The Gauteng JOA Pretoria sub-region held its inaugural monthly running get together on 11 November 2017 at the Pretoria Botanical Gardens parkrun venue. Members of the JOA are able to participate under the Reserve Force Council Association Running Club (RFCA RC) created with the assistance of parkrun South Africa.
Members also got together for this parkrun on Armistice Day, which remembers the cessation of the First World War on the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918. Armistice Day together with Remembrance Sunday commemorates the servicemen and women who have laid down their lives in the First and Second World Wars and subsequent conflicts.
Seen from left to right are Candidate Officer Johnathan Atkins (SAAF College), Second Lieutenants Nathan Tamele (Logistics Support Formation HQ Unit), Martha Netshakhuma (Pretoria Regiment), Seiso Makintane (Transvaal Staatsartillerie), and Capt Jacques de Vries (SA Army HQ Unit). The RFCA RC welcomes Lieutenants Netshakhuma and Tamele.
Following their finishes, members got together afterwards to catch up on lost time and discuss regional activities. JOA Gauteng Pretoria sub-region looks forward to more such get togethers at parkruns in and around Pretoria!
